An elderly man was found dead and tied to his bed in a northern town early Sunday morning, in what police were reportedly treating as a robbery that had gone awry.

Police said in a statement that officers found the 76-year-old with no vital signs in the apartment in the Arab town of Muqeible.

It said suspects had broken into the apartment, tied him up and stolen money and other items before fleeing the scene.

“At a certain stage, the victim likely passed away,” the police statement said, adding that the investigation was in its initial phase and that cops were working to locate the suspects.

Hebrew media reports indicated that while police had launched a suspected murder probe, the prevailing suspicion was that the victim had suffered some sort of cardiac arrest during or after the robbery.

The man was reportedly found with no signs of violence on his body.

Still, the reports said police believe that the death was directly linked to the robbery.
